MSC IN FORENSIC PSYCHIATRY

Forensic Psychiatry is a recognized sub-specialty of psychiatry and concerns the care of people with mental disorders who have committed criminal acts or are violent and aggressive and their behavior is related to their mental disorder. Forensic psychiatry, due to the nature of its subject which is in the common field of psychiatry and law (Medicine and Law), cannot be practiced "in a vacuum" and requires the cooperation and communication of scientists and experts from various fields of knowledge beyond Medicine (Psychiatry-Child Psychiatry and Adolescent) and Law (Judges, Prosecutors and lawyers).

Psychologists and nurses from mental health services, social workers, sociologists and criminologists, and correctional staff have to contribute at the care of mentally ill offenders. This cooperation of the experts from various fields will results positively in their health, but also in the risk reduction as for them as for the society. Main aims are also to develop a feeling of security and justice, to reduce the stigma of mental disorder and to support the most vulnerable.

The communication between different experts with different scientific background requires the creation of a common language that allows the seamless communication of various experts in terms of the promotion of mental health, justice and social cohesion in general.

Forensic Psychiatry and the MSc in Forensic Psychiatry aim at the training and specialization of scientists from various fields with different background to acquire this "common" "language".
